Startlogic Affiliate Program: Buyer Beware
NOTE: I have reposted this after another referral was “unqualified”. First instance was on March 30, 2010…
For those of us in the IT contracting/consulting field, affiliate programs provide a very good opportunity to give your clients a little more service without giving them a little more of a Bill, or to tack on a “repeat client discount”. Complete Computer Co. currently uses the Startlogic Affiliate Program, but apparently they like to hide behind the fine print instead of paying out for honestly earned referral customers.
This is not to downplay the importance of making sure that the system is not abused – undoubtedly in this economy as much as we would like to throw our Clients an extra hour of labor for no charge, companies like Startlogic need to make sure that people play by the rules. Complete Computer Co. offers all inclusive webhosting solutions for about $5.95/mo, which is a stellar deal.
Currently I am in the process of working with Customer Service. An excerpt from our conversation is below.

The sale inquired about is not a valid sale and is not qualified for commission payout. The reasont he account is not qualified for commission poayout is due to the fact that the account was purchased with your credit card on file, email and IP address. Please review your Affiliate Agreement for further clarification of the rules and regulations of the Affiliate program:

4. Commission Determination
Under the Affiliate Program, you will be paid a Commission Fee for each Qualified Purchase by a Referred Customer that you refer to StartLogic under and in accordance with the terms of this Agreement. Each Referred Customer and each Qualified Purchase must meet the following Criteria:
* Each Referred Customer must be a new and unique visitor to StartLogic and must register by completing and submitting the Registration Form using a valid and unique e-mail address.
* Each Referred Customer must make a Qualified Purchase, and provide a valid payment for the purchased StartLogic Products or Services. To generate a Commission Fee for you, each Referred Customer must be an active, qualified customer of StartLogic and must be up-to-date in all payments at the time the Commission Fees are processed and not have been subject to a refund, credit, cancellation, suspension or chargeback.
* Each Referred Customer must sign up in a manner, which in our sole judgment, definitively establishes that the Referred Customer was referred directly from you to StartLogic under this Agreement.
* Each Referred Customer must remain in compliance with our Terms of Service, Acceptable Use Policy and other policies that are active at the time the Commission Fees are processed.
* Commission Fees may not be paid for the Qualified Purchase if the Referred Customer has been offered or received coupons, refunds, credits or discounts from the Affiliate or if the Referred Customer has joined a business-opportunity program (as determined by StartLogic in its sole discretion) that is managed or participated in by the Affiliate, unless StartLogic has provided its prior written permission.
StartLogic reserves the right to withhold initial Commissions Fees for Affiliates who are new to the Affiliate program, or who have commissions that are potentially fraudulent as determined by StartLogic in its sole discretion, to determine the legitimacy and cancellation rates of Referred Customers.

The policy states that referrals are generated upon your “Sole Discretion”. I am an IT contractor who referrerd the user to startlogic and performed the signup process for them using their contact information.
Would you please contact them at ***.***.**** to verify? I would be very disapointed of Startlogic didnt hold out on their end of the deal – and if that is the case I will no longer refer my clients to you.

It appears you are not fully reading the Affiliate Agreement. As stated clearly in section 4:
“Each Referred Customer must be a new and unique visitor to StartLogic and must register by completing and submitting the Registration Form using a valid and unique e-mail address. ”
This means that the information on the client account and the Affiliate account must not match, if they do this is a violation of the agreement which then makes the sale null and void with regards to commission payout. We highly suggest thoroughly reading through your Agreement (which was agreed by yourself when you chose to join the program) to become more familiar with the rules and regulations of the program.

No, I am not reading anything incorrectly. The address used to register the ********** account is “******@gmail.com”, while the email address associated with my account is “completecomputerdanbury@gmail.com”
I highly suggest that you escalate this ticket to your superior before I not only cancel my account but migrate my clients and cease my relationship with Startlogic.
