Know your tech!
I just started our blog and wasn’t really sure what of what direction I wanted to take it. Sure, we fix computers and work with small businesses to try to maximize the way that technology works for them. But I wondered, what do we need a blog for?
Then, when I woke up this morning, I had an email from my roommate with a link to an article that I almost couldn’t believe (see “don’t let your pc tech do this to you…“)
The first thing I thought about was, “geez, I wonder how many times my auto mechanic has gone under the hood and done some damage just to make an extra buck?” But it just proves the point, you have to know and trust the people who help fix the things most important to us. In times like these, we should always be asking for business references (Complete Computer Co. will always offer this upon request).
Plus, wouldn’t it be odd if you hired someone to work on your computers and then suddenly things started breaking more than they used to before? The goal of IT (at least for us) is not only to be accessible to our clients when they need emergency service, but to also provide the “regularly scheduled maintenance” to try to limit the times that things really go bad.
I continued thinking more about this rediculous story, and asked myself, “Doesn’t this guy realize that computers don’t stop breaking in a bad economy?” If his business wasn’t doing well, perhaps he should have stepped it up and done business the right way – by doing honest work to satisfy his customers. To me, this means aggressively reaching out to customers who are very frustrated not only with this tough economy, but also with their computer systems that aren’t working as efficiently as they could be (also encouraging return business).
Something tells me he won’t be fixing anyone’s computers for quite a while!
